My first big influence is a fellow of mine, he is schizophrenic and has this “imaginary friend” that follows him everywhere and comforts him anytime he need it, a scary tale though, but i like the idea of “Imaginary Friends” being in someone’s life and not only “in his mind”, i start to write it down about him in a few sentences, mainly i think about what if a person whom has imaginary friend is dissociating himself from his imaginary friend because he has grow up ? What does the imaginary friend feel ?.Īnd soon enough i start to connect it with real life problem : in adult life there’s little to no place for imagination, some of us do experience when parents or teachers order or coerce us to stop playing with imaginary friends because we’re look dumb or on the spectrum, when i think about it again, i kept my focus on the imaginary friend, what will it feel about this ? Being dumped is not a new experience for me, been there done that so i kinda understand what it may feel to be separated by coercion, it’s desperation and sadness is the one that create the concept of Imaginary friends in the story : they too are living beings with feelings.īut if i aam to be asked what is the moeal of the story? It will be : Move On. In my mind, i try to craft a story where people can laugh and be touched at the same time and so i try to make an allegory about my own experience being brokenhearted. When it has been clear that our main theme will be “Land of Dreams” i start to plan story treatments to pitch our project, i never liked the idea of brainstorming with fellow members with no idea in the first place because it can really be problematic especially when you know that most of cabaret members are not “serious” personalities that took this as a job which can lead a discussion into a roasting table, because i am not resonant with such condition to work i often work on the story treatment by myself and took inspirations not from pop culture or stories but mainly from my own experience. I know not many have an interest in knowing the things that happened off stage but surely everyone can learn things from it. What i want to tell you in this part is how i wrote the story in the first place, what is my inspiration for the character traits, storyline and so on.
